PARIS, MAY 9, 2017: (DGW) Bayelsa Youths protest the killing of their sister. Youths of Biogbolo Community in Yenagoa Bayelsa state yesterday disrupted the peace of the state as they took to the streets to protest the death of an eighteen-year-old girl Miss FaithPius who was allegedly stabbed by a twenty-six-year-old lover in a hotel room in Yenagoa.
A version of the story had it that the duo were lovers while another version said the young Igbo man wanted to cut the girl's breasts for ritual purpose.
It was gathered that the young man took to his heels when the wailings of the victim attracted the attention of other guests who came to her rescue.
Guests in the hotel said that the suspect escaped from the guests' house as the victim screamed when the guest of the hotel and residents in the neighbourhood rushed to the guest house.
It was gathered that Pius was however taken to a private clinic where she was treated and the wounds stitched, but her situation developed complications on Saturday and she died Sunday morning.
CP Amba Asuquo, Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa who confirmed the incident, said it was initially considered a case of assault caused by harm but it had become a matter of murder against the suspect since the victim died from the attack.
"Initially, it was treated purely as a case of assault occasioned by harm but now that the girl has died we are now treating a case of murder against one suspect.
"We are in the process of ensuring that the suspect is arrested because after committing the crime he ran away. I know some people are
associating it to ritual purposes, but we cannot conclude," he said.
