PARIS, JANUARY 11, 2016: (DGW) As the counter-insurgency operations continue in the north-east together with other insecurity challenges across Nigeria, one of Buhari's top loyalist and former Lagos State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav has faulted President Buhari's claim by nailing the lie that Boko Haram has been degraded and eventually defeated.
Recall, at the tail end of last year, President Buhari in a nationwide broadcast told the world that the terrorist group has been defeated following their ouster from their Sambisa forest bastion which was applauded by his loyalist and Abubakar Tsav, former Lagos Police boss.
But in what appears like a sudden reversal from his earlier stance, the former Lagos Police boss said the President has lied to the nation as should quickly reshuffle his cabinet to allows for round peg in round roles instead of the current square peg in round roles dotting his cabinet which is why the problems and resultant suffering in the country has persisted.
He made this remark while speaking in an interview with Daily Sun newspapers.
Abubakar Tsav who is currently the Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission in charge of Benue State said Buhari said he is fighting corruption and winning the war but corruption was still going on which has triggered off confusion, untold hardship and suffering in Nigeria.
According to him, ''We had many challenges last year. We had security challenges, economic challenges and poor infrastructure. The president said he was fighting corruption but corruption was still going on. So, in the end, everybody was confused and suffering. It wasn’t easy at all last year.''
On the counter-insurgency operations in the north-east, Abubakar Tsav also expressed reservations saying that with the declaration that Boko Haram has been defeated things should get better but the reverse still remains the case under the existing circumstances.
His words: 'But with the situation especially now that the military said they had crushed Boko Haram, things should get better. But I think it is not yet Uhuru and we should not yet rejoice that Boko Haram has been crushed because cases of insurgency are not what one can say he has crushed in one day because these insurgents have no marks of identity on their foreheads. You cannot easily identify them because they can mix with members of the public. And it is pertinent to note that these insurgents learn how to manufacture these bombs they use in bombing places. And the instruments for manufacturing bombs are everywhere in the society such that you don’t see them (insurgents) carrying these instruments all around. The only things that one may see them carrying about are guns.''
While nailing the President's lie that Boko Haram has been defeated, Abubakar Tsav, advised Nigerians to be extremely vigilant adding that ''this is no time for Nigerians to relax and think Boko Haram has been dealth with.
He said,''So, I think what we need to do is to be extremely vigilant. This is no time for Nigerians to relax and think that Boko Haram has been dealt with. We should be alert and then, government should also take steps to look into the problems in Niger-Delta and this Biafran issue so that all these problems can be resolved once and for all to pave way for peaceful coexistence in the country.''
