In what appears to be a retaliatory response to the pro-Biafran agitation in the south-east, the Coalition of Arewa Youth Development Foundation (AYDF) said plans for a meeting have been concluded to give Igbos residing in the northern part of the country a raw deal by giving them two weeks to leave the north.
This action, they said, is deemed absolutely necessary in the wake of the protest sweeping across the south-east to secede from Nigeria; consequent harassment of northern traders and the tacit backing by some state governments in the south-east.
AYDF called for prompt intervention by the Arewa Consultative Forum and Northern Elders Forum on the humiliation of northerners residing in the south-east geopolitical zone failure, failure to do so will spark off reprisal attacks on Igbos in the north.
In a letter made available to our reporter and other newsmen in Kaduna, north-central Nigeria jointly signed by Hon. Aminu Adams, Arewa Citizens Action for Change, Barr. Aliyu Usman, Arewa Youth Development Foundation, Comrade Yusuf Muhammed, Arewa Students' Forum, Bridget Cantiop Yahya Northen Emancipation Network and other pro-Arewa groups criticised the on-going agitations in the south-east and resolved to meet with other northern leaders and other youth groups in the desert city of Kano to urgently review, discuss the consequent harassment of their folks across the south-eastern states with a view to knowing their next line of action.
The pro-Arewa groups reminded one and all of the humiliation of the northerners across the south-east and that they had earlier staged a protest march to the Palace of the Kano Monarch sometimes last year to have the Igbos read the Riot Act.
