News making the rounds as the Nigerian Senate begins the screening of ministerial nominees have it that Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State might not get the approval of the Senate to become one of the ministers.
The former Rivers helmsman is among the nominees submitted by President Buhari for his long-awaited cabinet of ministers. Reports reaching DailyGlobeWatch say that a high-powered petition was today forwarded to the Nigerian Upper Legislative Chamber protesting against his nomination resulting from the prodigal nature and high-profile looting of public funds by the former Rivers State Governor while in office.
This, our source gathered, has taken the President by surprise who has vowed to use all the resources within his disposal to ensure Amaechi scales through the screening in the senate. Many, our reporter said, were disappointed with the President's resolve.
It will be recalled however the president's inclusion of highly questionable characters in his ministerial nominee list has called his avowed desire in question to fight corruption thus making many Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to lose confidence in his ongoing anti-graft war in the country.
