Former Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is dead. He died today of cardiac arrest at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where he had been placed on life support for the past two days.

The state information ministry confirmed the death to DailyGlobeWatch in Yenegoa, the Bayelsa State capital. It would be recalled that the former Governor is facing possible extradition by the British Government to face corruption charges.

Our source revealed that late Diepreye Alamieyeseigha jumped bail, returned to Nigeria and had since then not honoured the summons served on him to continue his trial in the  United Kingdom before he turned up his toes.

The deceased, DailyGlobeWatch understands, served Nigeria in different capacities while alive. He was enlisted into the Nigerian Airforce after training at the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1974 and retired as a Squadron Leader in 1992.

He became the executive Governor of Bayelsa State on May 29, 1999, a position he held till December 9, 2005, before he was impeached on allegations of corruption. Diepreye  aged 63 is  survived by a wife and children.
