LEMON water is of immense benefit to the human body. Over the years, research findings have confirmed that taking lemon water is a way of keeping sicknesses at bay. These are 12 of the ways that taking lemon water can rejuvenate one’s body.

    Cleanses the body
Lemon water will stimulate the liver to produce more bile, which will improve body’s natural detoxification system. When the liver works better, the body is cleansed of toxins and other types of harmful agents.

    Improves digestion
There are several compounds in lemons which produce more bile; this will lead to an improved digestion.

Drinking lemon water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach will result in much lower levels of indigestion, bloating, belching and heartburn. Lemon water will also prevent constipation by smoothing out the overall function of the bowels. Even the American Cancer Society recommends drinking lemon water to those with cancer to help stimulate bowel movements. If one suffers constipation, digestive problems, or even chronic indigestion, drinking a glass of lemon with water in the morning will go a long way towards relieving those types of problems.

    Reduces inflammation

Although lemons are acidic by nature, they turn alkaline once consumed. Drinking lemon water regularly will help to lower the acidity of the body. Cancer and other diseases start in and thrive in an acidic environment. Drinking lemon water will also help the body remove uric acid from the joints, which is one of the main causes of gout and the inflammation that causes arthritis.

    It can reduce weight

If one is trying to shed weight, drinking lemon water can help! Lemons are high in pectin, a type of fiber which helps to stop those in between meal hunger pangs and food craving. Adding a bit of honey and cayenne pepper to lemon water will increase metabolism, which will aid in burning more calories without even trying.

    Cleans the urinary tract

If you have ever had a urinary tract infection, then you know how painful they can be. Lemon water is a natural but mild diuretic which can help to keep the urinary tract clean. Lemons will also change the pH level of the entire urinary tract, which will discourage the growth of bacteria. If one suffers from frequent urinary tract infections, this is the perfect drink!

    Makes your skin beautiful

Drinking lemon water on a regular basis will make a big difference in one’s complexion. The high Vitamin C content in lemon juice, along with other antioxidants, will kill off the free radicals in the body which lead to premature aging of the skin. Lemons help to purify the blood as well as encourage the body to grow new blood cells, skin and the connective tissue which keeps the skin looking firm.

    Helps regulate blood pressure

If one suffers from hypertension, drinking lemon water can help tremendously. Lemon juice will cleanse the lymph system and help to keep the body hydrated. Lemons also have more potassium than grapes. Potassium removes salt from the body, which can lead to lower overall blood pressure levels.

    Improves immune system

Vitamin C is vital to the immune system, so drinking lemon water will improve the immune system while helping the body fight off viruses and bacteria. Lemon improves the ability to absorb iron, which is also important for the immune system function. The antimicrobial compounds in lemon juice will help keep infections outside of the body to where they belong!

    Stops throat infections

Lemons contain powerful antimicrobial and antibacterial compounds which make them perfect for fighting throat infections, sore throats and tonsillitis. Those who consume lemon water at least once each day are at a lower risk of developing these types of infections in the first place. If you have a sore or scratchy throat, try gargling with some warm lemon water three times a day and watch that problem just disappear!

    Stops halitosis

Halitosis, or bad breath, is often caused by the overgrowth of bad bacteria in the mouth. Drinking lemon water on a regular basis can help to eliminate bad breath due to its antimicrobial and antibacterial compounds. Lemon water will also encourage the production of saliva, which dilutes bacteria in the mouth.

    Increased energy

Lemons are quite nutritious, with tonnes of Vitamin C, protein, phosphorous and potassium, which make the fruit a natural energiser. With improved digestion, one will reap more of the nutritional benefits from food. Also, lemons are full of negative ions, which provide almost instant energy. Lemons help to hydrate and oxygenate, so one will feel refreshed, energised and ready to take on the day!

    Naturally balances pH levels

One of the best alkalising foods ever is right at our fingertips; lemons! Lemons contain both ascorbic acid and citric acid that help the body maintain healthy pH levels. Too much of an acidic environment in the body encourages inflammation, which can lead to many chronic diseases, including cancer.

It’s important to note that lemon juice can, however, damage the enamel of the teeth, so after drinking, rinse the mouth with plain water.

  • How to prevent sagging breasts naturally

    13/Apr/2016 // 961 Viewers

Every woman wants to have perfectly shaped breasts throughout her life. Sadly, this is not possible in most cases. Breast sagging is a natural process that happens with age where the breasts lose their suppleness and elasticity. A drooping pair of breasts can severely undermine how a woman feels about herself, and may feel it lessens her attractiveness in the eyes of the opposite sex. Learning what causes breasts to sag and tackling this issue proactively can offer a lot of help.

    What Causes Saggy Breasts

For starters, breasts do not have muscle, they are made of fat, connective tissues and milk-producing glands, and they need proper care to keep them in good shape. Though saggy breasts usually start happening after a woman reaches 40, it can occur earlier. According to various studies, it is understood that when a woman reaches her late thirties, the skin can become loose and begin to show signs of aging. According to the Oregon Institute of Breast Health Education, this is especially true in the breasts, particularly if a woman has gone through a pregnancy.

Apart from age & pregnancy, other factors that cause sagging breasts such as menopause, rapid weight loss or gain, strenuous exercise, nutritional deficiencies, smoking, over-tanning and wearing a poorly fitting bra.

Many believe that breastfeeding can cause sagging, but this is FALSE according to a 2008 study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal which concluded that breastfeeding isn’t a risk factor for ptosis (a fancy name for drooping). The real culprit is actually pregnancy itself, as weight gain during pregnancy can cause ligaments to stretch, which can lead to drooping later. You can minimize this issue by making sure you stick to a relatively healthy weight gain while you’re pregnant,
Some diseases like breast cancer or respiratory conditions like tuberculosis can also cause breasts to sag. Excessive consumption of nicotine, alcohol and carbonated beverages can also contribute to the problem.

A wide variety of creams and lotions are available on the market to tighten and tone up sagging breasts. However, if you prefer natural methods, there are many simple and easy home remedies that you can try.

    How To Firm The Breasts

There are a number of home remedies for regaining the firmness of saggy breasts, including regular pectoral exercises, massaging, masks, plant oils and essential oils in different forms.

    Maintain an Optimal Weight

If you are someone who struggles with weight, and if gain and lose weight continuously and fail to stay at a steady optimal weight, it could take a toll on your breasts. Your skin, especially over the breasts, loses elasticity when stretched. Also when you lose weight, you can lose fat from the breasts very fast as compared to other parts of the body. This continuous stretching and relaxing of the skin makes it droop and sag over time.

    Drink Plenty of Water

According to experts at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals, the skin is comprised of cells that are predominantly made up of water. Lack of water takes a toll on the skin, and can make the skin over your breast look shrunken and dull. When there is less water in your body the skin doesn’t receive the requisite amount and might look flaky, dry and get wrinkled. This could lead to premature aging of the skin around the breasts making it lose firmness and sag.

    Nutrition & Exercise

Always combine healthy eating with exercise, as this is the only way to reduce weight while keeping your skin firm. Improper weights can also cause your breasts to sag. Drastic weight loss in a short span of time would definitely cause your breasts to lose their fullness.

Nutritional deficiencies can lead to saggy breasts, as nutrients are needed for breast growth and support. A protein deficiency can result in the breast muscles losing their strength and firmness, thereby leading to saggy breasts. It's essential to eat foods that are nutritionally rich and contain proteins, vitamins, calcium, minerals, carbohydrates and essential fats etc. Some of the foods that you need to include in your meals every day would include tomatoes, onions, carrots, cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower and garlic etc.

    Pomegranate

This fruit is considered a wonderful anti-aging ingredient and can help prevent sagging breasts. Pomegranate seed oil is rich in phyto-nutrients that can lead to firm breasts.

    Aloe Vera

This amazing plant has natural skin-tightening properties that can help get rid of sagging breasts. The antioxidants in aloe vera prevent damage caused by free radicals and help firm sagging breasts. Apply aloe vera gel to the breasts and massage gently in a circular motion for 10 minutes. Allow it to sit in the skin for another 10 minutes, then wash it off with cold water. Repeat this remedy 4 or 5 times a week to get effective results.

Home Remedies To Help Firm The Breasts

    Breast Exercise

It is said that the right exercises can keep your breasts perky, however,  since breasts are made up of fat, not muscle—technically there’s nothing to tighten or tone. But chest exercises can help improve the appearance of your pectoral area by strengthening surrounding ligaments, which in turn may make them appear more lively, stated Anne Taylor, MD, a clinical assistant professor of plastic surgery at Ohio State University.

The easiest and most popular exercise to add firmness to breasts is to do push-ups, which strengthen the pectoral muscles beneath the breasts. Overall, it will help to shape up the breast and reduce the excess fat deposits around the chest. Lifting weights can also strengthen pectoral muscles, including curls, chest presses, dumbbell flyes and many other variations you can try that make you feel your chest muscles working.

    Workout Firmer Breasts

    Breast Masks

Like facial masks, breast masks can help firm the skin in and around the breast region. You can use these breast masks at least once in a week for desirable results.

Vitamin E Oil & Egg Breast Mask

    Make a paste consisting of:
    1 Tbsp Plain Yogurt
    1 Tbsp Vitamin E Oil
    1 Egg
    Directions:

Apply this paste over your breast and rub it in nicely.
Leave on for about half an hour.
Rinse it off with cold water .
    Massage

Massage your breasts at least 2-3 times per week with coconut or olive oil to help add firmness and increase the elasticity to the skin as well as improve the skin tone and texture. Massage draws blood to the surface of the skin, increases blood flow, while stimulating muscle growth, and cell repair to help reduce the appearance and severity of sagging breasts.

    Ice Massages

Ice can help tone the skin in and around the breast region. All you need to do is rub a few ice cubes over your breasts in wide circular motions. You can also wrap some crushed ice in a ziplock bag wrapped in a cloth and use the same way to massage your breasts. Massage for around 1 minute, as too much exposure to ice can cause numbness. Try this massage at regular intervals throughout the day to firm your breast muscles and skin.

    Plant Oils

Massaging your breasts with vegetable oils like coconut, olive or grape seed oil is also beneficial for toning the breast skin and tissues. Excellent examples include almond oil and grape seed oil, all of which help firm and nourish the breast skin. For better results, you can mix two drops of any essential oil along with the vegetable oils before rubbing them on your breasts.

    Essential Oils

Essential Oils like fennel seed oil, spearmint oil, carrot oil, lemongrass oil and cypress oil contain skin cell rejuvenation properties that help restore the suppleness and elasticity of saggy skin. Just massage your breasts with these oils at regular intervals throughout the day in order to tone the skin in and around your breasts. Be forewarned that these oils could burn the skin and so need to be applied in small quantities. Two drops would be more than enough for the purpose.

    Avoid These Sagging Triggers

In addition to the above home remedies, there are certain potential triggers you need to avoid in order to prevent saggy breasts. These include:

    Smoking & Over-Tanning

Lighting up is a significant risk factor for breast drooping, according to the 2008 study. The same can be said for any poor lifestyle habit that breaks down skin’s collagen like soaking up too many UV rays or eating a nutrient-poor, high-fat diet.

Wrong Sized or Poorly Fitting Bras

A wrong sized bra can make your breasts sag in no time at all. Not wearing a bra would not help as well. Your best option would be to opt for bras with special support holders or pads at the bottom of the cup. These would keep your breasts in place and prevent sagging.

Going Braless is Good For Your Breasts?

Some women who go braless may actually have the right idea, and this has been suggested by new research.  According to the results of a 15-year study in France (It should be noted the study does not mention breast size), bras provide no benefits to women and may actually be harmful to breasts over time. Jean-Denis Rouillon, a professor at the University of Franche-Comté in Besançon stated, "Medically, physiologically, anatomically, the breast does not benefit from being deprived of gravity."

Rouillon measured and examined the breasts of more than 300 women, aged 18 and 35, taking note of how the additional support provided by bras affects the body over time. Overall, he found that women who did not use bras benefited in the long term, developing more muscle tissue to provide natural support. Rouillon also noticed that nipples gained a higher lift, in relation to the shoulders, on women who went braless. The study concluded that when bras are worn, the restrictive material prevents such tissue from growing, which may actually accelerate sagging, .

But don't throw away your bras just yet, ladies, because despite the findings, Rouillon said it would be dangerous to advise all women to trash their bras based on the study's sample, which may not be representative of the population. Rouillon cautioned women who have worn bras for a long time, like several decades, that following these recommendations may have less chance of seeing as much benefit. - the scienceofeating.com

  • What does science say about how to be a good kisser?

    13/Mar/2016 // 400 Viewers

In all fairness, how to be a good kisser is something no one really gets instruction in.

Yet, it can be a huge part of one's personal life and the sources we do get info from are, well, far from scientific.

    Let's tackle it.
Have no illusions: Kissing is important
Research shows kissing frequency correlates with relationship satisfaction.

Overall, the researchers showed that the amount a couple kissed was proportional to their stated level of relationship satisfaction.

59% of men and 66% of women have ended a relationship because someone was a bad kisser.

The first kiss is a necessary risk in every budding sexual relationship; a recent psychology study found that 59 percent of men and 66 percent of women reported breaking things off with a prospective partner because of it.

People remember their first kiss more vividly than the first time they had sex.

Psychologist John Bohannon from Butler University has found that most of us can recall up to 90 percent of the details of a first romantic kiss. In his study of five hundred people, most remembered this experience more vividly than their first sexual encounter.

Movies like 'Pretty Woman' have said that prostitutes don't kiss on the mouth because it's too intimate.

    And that's actually true.
Refraining from mouth-to-mouth kissing has been common among women of the 'oldest profession' for a very long time. Social scientists Joanna Brewis and Stephen Linstead report that prostitutes often won't kiss because it requires a 'genuine desire and love for the other person.' By avoiding the lips of a client, they are best able to keep emotions out of their work.

Men who kiss their wives before work live 5 years longer, make 20-30% more money and are far less likely to get in a car accident.

A ten-year psychology study undertaken in Germany during the 1980s found that men who kissed their wives before leaving for work lived, on average, five years longer, earning 20 to 30 percent more than peers who left without a peck good-bye. The researchers also reported that not kissing one's wife before leaving in the morning increased the possibility of a car accident by 50 percent. Psychologists do not believe it's the kiss itself that accounts for the difference but rather that kissers were likely to begin the day with a positive attitude, leading to a healthier lifestyle.

    Why do we kiss?
Kissing is how we test if someone would (biologically) be a good mate.

A good deal of the scientific literature speculates that kissing may have evolved to help us choose a suitable partner, or to realize when a match is a bad idea…The exchange of olfactory, tactile, and postural information might trigger unconscious mechanisms that guide us in deciding whether we should continue, and a kiss might even tell us about a potential partner's level of commitment and genetic compatibility.

Research highlighted in The Science of Kissing: What Our Lips Are Telling Us shows a big gender divide in how kissing is perceived.

Women were far more likely to see kissing as a good way to assess a potential mate or to initiate, maintain, and monitor a long-term relationship. They also rated the breath and taste of a man's kiss as highly significant in determining whether to keep on kissing him in the moment or the future. Women were far more interested in healthy-looking teeth, and reported valuing the experience of kissing much more than men did— before, during, and after a sexual encounter. Men, on the other hand, were much less picky about kissing and far more interested in facial and bodily attractiveness.

Joseph and Dorothy Bolotin Sharon, Pennsylvania Married on June 16, 1938. Dorothy, “I never think of it in terms of years. I think of it in terms of good years. In love, hot romance doesn't last forever. So I would say that yes, I think love changes. I would say we're still in love. It's focusing, doing little things. He's an amazing man.”

How do you find out if someone wants to kiss you?

This dilemma probably produces more nervousness and awkwardness than anything else related to kissing.

All the sources I checked agreed:
It's a matter of breaking into your partner's personal space in a plausibly deniable way and gauging their reaction.

It's important to note that whether or not your intentions are romantic, to kiss another person on the cheek or elsewhere— or to sniff him or her—it's necessary to move into that individual's 'personal space.' To get this close, there must be some level of trust or expectation. Thus delivering a friendly kiss or sniff, or receiving one, amounts to an unspoken gesture of acceptance.

The best specific method came from pick-up artist David D'Angelo: Guys, adjust a woman's hair.

It's an intimate enough gesture that a flinch can tell you she's not interested - while a more pleasant response could be a green light. Either way it provides the information necessary without making things too awkward for either party.

    Advice for women
For The Art of Kissing William Cane asked men what their biggest complaints and desires were regarding kissing.

Ladies, want to make guys think you're a great kisser? Here are my takeaways from the research:

Open your mouth more. Research shows men prefer 'wetter kisses with more tongue action.'

    Initiate more.
Be more aggressive with your tongue and take an active part in the kiss.

You could probably sum them all up by saying: Stop holding back.

    Advice For men
Here are my takeaways from the findings in The Art of Kissing:

Don't jam your tongue down her throat. This was women's most frequent complaint. You're kissing her, not trying to implant an alien embryo in her stomach.

Keep your ears attuned to her breathing. Bluntly, make sure you're allowing her to breathe. Women tend to enjoy kissing more when they're not being suffocated.

'Listen' to the way she's kissing. Match her tempo. Reply to her tongue action with similar tongue action. Leading and being aggressive can be good but being oblivious is bad.

Also, aligning with the research on hygiene, take care of your teeth, use mouthwash and carry mints.

No matter how attractive someone may be, poor hygiene can kill the moment before it even begins. This is particularly true for men. As preceding chapters have described, women depend heavily on taste and smell and pay close attention to teeth when evaluating a partner.

A few other tips from an interview with William Cane, author of The Art of Kissing:

'53% of women prefer (to kiss) a clean-shaven man.'

'Women's favourites spot to be kissed, other than the mouth, is the neck.Ninety-six percent of women reported that they like neck kisses, while only about 10% of men do.'

'Women also complain that men don't do enough variations in kissing, that they're too machine-like or repetitive. Women would like a number of different kisses: the neck, the ears, 'liposuction,' which is moving from the upper lip to the lower lip…be creative.'

And It's not all about technique
As Sun Tzu said, 'all wars are won or lost before they are ever fought.' By and large, the same is true about kissing.

You can be a great kisser but behave in a way that makes sure no one ever wants to kiss you. Circumstances can hamper things as well.

The Science of Kissing: What our lips are telling us addresses a number of these factors:

Looking good matters, so look good. Yeah, it's obvious but if you're the guy wearing black socks with sandals and a fanny pack, take note. (More on the scientific approach to being sexier here and here.)

Set the stage. Getting to know one another eases awkwardness and lays the groundwork for a hormonal profile conducive to intimacy. Love researcher Arthur Aron has a list of questions shown to make people bond almost instantly.

Context matters. If you want it to go well, pick the right time, not some sloppy smothering outside the bar. I've posted before about the things that help in this area; dim lights, wearing red, sharing secrets and a touch of excitement can all be a good lead-in.

Get to know your partner's likes and dislikes. Kissing isn't an Olympic sport judged by an objective 1-10 score. A big part of it is personal preference. Get to know your partner and you will become a better kisser in their eyes as the relationship progresses. - Time.

  • Why banana is good for you

    13/May/2016 // 402 Viewers

Are bananas really too high in natural sugars to be part of a healthy diet? No. Eating bananas becomes risky only if you eat too many. About two bananas a day are okay.

A diet rich in produce—including bananas—can help you lose and maintain a healthy weight. Fruit provides relatively few calories from its volume, thanks in part to its high water and fibre content. Not only are those who eat plant-based diets thinner they have reduced risks for most chronic disease, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

When it comes to the glycemic index of bananas, all fruit is rich in fructose, which is digested and absorbed slowly by the liver as opposed to other sugars that are metabolized through the small intestine. In fact, because bananas provide equal amounts of glucose and fructose and a small amount of sucrose, they have a low-to-moderate glycemic index of 51, which is the same as many other fruits like grapes, pineapple and mangoes.

A medium banana (7 to 8 inches long) has 110 calories and provides 30 grammes of carborhydrates, 3 grammes fibre and has 13 percent potassium and 15 percent of each, vitamin C and manganese. As a general rule, half of a medium-sized banana or 1 small banana (4 to 5 inches long) is recommended as a serving. When you eat that portion size, bananas are essentially equivalent to any other piece of fruit in terms of calories and carbs.

The unripe fruit also contain resistant starch, a type of carb that your body can’t digest so it doesn’t contribute any calories and acts as a prebiotic.

Prebiotics help boost the amount of probiotics in the gastrointestinal tract. The resistant start and fiber in bananas help to fill you up and not out. (The greener the banana, the more resistant starch it contains) In addition, smelling bananas has been shown to be a natural appetite-suppressant, so be sure to take in their aroma before eating them. Bananas are a dieter’s friend and a nutrient-rich fruit that should be part of any diet.

  • 10 Cancer Symptoms You Are Likely To Ignore

    14/Nov/2016 // 238 Viewers

Cancer is a terrible disease that we don’t want to ever develop to us and anyone we hold dear. Some cancer symptoms could be very obvious and easy to discover. Some are not very evident and most of us would probably think they are symptoms of something benign. But it is always good to know when to see your doctor for testing, diagnosis, and treatment options. Here we have 10 cancer symptoms you are likely to ignore:

    A swollen foot or leg:
Edema can be caused by cancer it is an abnormal buildup of fluid in the body. It is most commonly found in feet and legs of people who are standing up for extended periods of time. People easily neglect this symptom not knowing that this can be an early indication of underlying health problems. Edema can be caused by caused by cancer, especially kidney, liver, or ovarian cancers. If you have this symptom you might want to ask your doctor to diagnose the cause of your edema.

    Unexplained weight loss

    6-3

And you think losing weight unexpectedly is a good thing? Well not always. Sudden weight loss is the first thing one of the first noticeable symptoms of a health problem. Most people with cancer reported unexplained weight loss during their diagnosis.

    Chronic fatigue

    6-3

Fatigue could be the most troubling symptom for people with cancer.  But people easily neglect this symptom because fatigue occurs to 70-80% of people especially for people that have jobs. If your tiredness does not go away even after resting and continues for a week or a month then it could be a sign of cancer.

    Long-lasting pain

    6-3

Chronic (long-lasting) pain in cancer patients is tumors pressing on your bones, nerves or other organs in your body.  Patients experiencing nerve pain caused by tumors feel a burning, shooting or tingling sensation inside the skin.

    Lumps under the skin

    6-3

A painless lump under the skin may be the first symptom of a soft tissue sarcoma. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bones or soft tissues. Abnormal growth in the soft tissues can have several types. But if it is a sarcoma then it can be either a malignant tumor or cancer. Sarcomas can be life-threatening especially if they are diagnosed when the tumor has already spread to your liver, lungs, brain or other important organs.

    Leukoplakia

    6-3

Leukoplakia can be linked to oral cancer. It can appear as thick, white patches that form on the tongue or on your gums. Smoking tobacco is the most common cause of leukoplakia. Mild leukoplakia isn’t usually dangerous but in serious cases it can be linked to oral cancer.

    Changes in your skin

    6-3

Skin cancers like melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma frequently start off as changes to your skin. They can be new growths or precancerous lesions changes that are not cancer but could become cancer over time. The trick to cure skin cancer is to spot it early on so don’t neglect the early signs of skin cancer.

    Changes in your restroom habits

    6-3

Colon cancer symptoms can be quite misleading. Stomach pains or a change in bowel habits are common occurrences that anyone without cancer may experience. However, carelessness could lead to serious health problems and could allow colon cancer to grow. Educating yourself on colon cancer symptoms is a good idea to know for sure if you have colon cancer.

    A prolonged fever

    6-3

A fever is a common symptom related to other benign conditions. An increased body temperature is not a bad thing, it’s just your body letting you know that something is wrong and it is fighting off the infection. In some rare cases, however, it could be a symptom of something life-threatening. Cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma are types of cancer that commonly cause fever.

    Unexpected Bleeding

    6-3

There are many possible causes for abnormal vaginal bleeding in between periods. While some causes are easily treatable, others can be an indication of something more serious. Unexpected bleeding is one symptom of cervical and endometrial cancer. The moment you notice spotting or heavier bleeding in between periods, it is always wise to see your doctor right away.

  • Ebola may persist in semen for nine months

    15/Oct/2015 // 245 Viewers

AFP/File / by Kerry Sheridan | Nurses wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) treat ebola patients at the Kenama treatment center run by the Red Cross Society on November 15, 2014

    MIAMI (AFP) -

The Ebola virus may persist in some men's semen for nine months after they were initially infected, far longer than previously known, according to preliminary research out Wednesday.

     http://jobrize.com/index.php?ref=373503

The first long-term study of its kind, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, adds to growing evidence that Ebola can linger in the body, causing health problems for months or even years.

The findings raise new health concerns for the survivors of the Ebola epidemic that has ravaged West Africa since late 2013, killing more than 11,000 people in the deadliest outbreak since the virus was first identified in 1976.

This is the second consecutive week with no confirmed new cases, global health authorities say.

"These results come at a critically important time, reminding us that while Ebola case numbers continue to plummet, Ebola survivors and their families continue to struggle with the effects of the disease," said Bruce Aylward, the World Health Organization's special representative on the Ebola response.

"This study provides further evidence that survivors need continued, substantial support for the next six to 12 months to meet these challenges and to ensure their partners are not exposed to potential virus."

In March, researchers published a study describing the case of a Liberian woman who appeared to have been infected with Ebola after having sex with a survivor six months after his infection was diagnosed.

"Before this case, the furthest into convalescence that Ebola virus had been isolated from semen was 82 days," said Armand Sprecher, an Ebola expert with Doctors Without Borders.

The first known case of sexual transmission of a virus within the Ebola family was documented in 1967 when a woman was infected with Marburg virus through sex with her husband six weeks after he recovered, Sprecher added.

    - Research findings -

A total of 93 men from Sierra Leone enrolled in the study to examine semen samples for the presence of Ebola virus genetic material.

All the men were over 18 and joined the study between two and 10 months after they were infected with Ebola.

All those who were tested in the first three months after their illness showed positive results for Ebola in the semen.

Four to six months after diagnosis, 65 percent were positive.

About a quarter (26 percent) of those tested between seven and nine months were positive.

It remains unclear why some men retained fragments of Ebola virus and others did not.

Researchers are also unsure whether these trace levels could mean the men were still infectious to partners.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is conducting further tests to determine if the samples contained live, potentially infectious virus.

    - Survivors struggle -

There are more than 8,000 male survivors of Ebola in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, and experts are urging them to use condoms until their semen has twice tested negative for Ebola.

People who survive Ebola are considered cured once the virus is no longer detectable in the bloodstream, typically within weeks of infection.

An outbreak of Ebola in a given location can be declared over 42 days after the resolution of the last case, according to the World Health Organization.

But many experts now think that a period of increased surveillance and caution should extend 90 days, or even longer.

The latest study was released just as a British nurse fell critically ill due to a resurgence of the Ebola virus, following her successful treatment in January.

Daniel Bausch, a World Health Organization (WHO) virologist, told AFP that Ebola can "hang around" in some parts of the body because "it takes longer for your immune system to get into those places and clean the virus out."

Researchers already know that some of these places include the testicles, the brain and the spinal cord, and possibly in the joint spaces and the chambers around the eye, he said.

"Over the past few years, there has been mounting evidence of the mental and physical problems in Ebola survivors that can last for years after the virus is cleared from the bloodstream," Ben Neuman, a lecturer in virology at the University of Reading, told the Science Media Centre in London.

  • #4 deadly effects of anger on your health

    16/Mar/2016 // 168 Viewers

    (1) ANGER WEAKENS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM:

When anger kicks in your body readies itself to respond to a perceived threat. Your normal processes stop and certain brain centers start firing in ways that alter your brain chemistry.

    (2) REPRESSING ANGER TRIPLES HEART ATTACK:

Studies have shown this is worse than lashing out. If you tend to suppress feelings of anger, try to confide in friends or seek therapeutic ways to release your anger.

    (3) NEGATIVE EMOTIONS CREATE DISEASE:

The highly conservative Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CPC) admits that 85% of all diseases have a strong link to your emotional state.

    (4) HIGHER RISK OF HEART ATTACK:

Those with explosive tempers were significantly more likely to have arterial calcium deposits  - a primary indicator of heart attack risk.

  • Long life depends on lifespan of parents: study

    17/Aug/2016 // 119 Viewers

The largest ever study of its kind ever conducted shows the longer parents live, the longer offspring are also likely to live.

The research, released Tuesday in London by the Medical Research Council (MRC), also shows it means children of long-lived parents are more likely to stay healthy in their sixties and seventies.

Those with longer-lived parents have with much lower rates of heart conditions and some cancers.

The major study, funded by the MRC and involving almost 190,000 participants in the UK Biobank, is the largest of its kind. It found that chances of survival increased by 17 percent for each decade that at least one parent lives beyond the age of 70.

The study was led by the University of Exeter and involved an international team of academics from the University of Cambridge (UK), UConn Center on Aging at UConn Health in Connecticut, USA, the French National Institute of Health, and the Indian Institute of Public Health.

It found evidence showing for the first time that knowing the age at which parents died could help predict risk not only of heart disease, but many aspects of heart and circulatory health.

The researchers used data on the health of 186,000 middle-aged offspring, aged 55 to 73 years, followed over a period of up to eight years.

The team found that those with longer lived parents had lower incidence of multiple circulatory conditions including heart disease, heart failure, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and atrial fibrillation.

It found the risk of death from heart disease was 20 percent lower for each decade that at least one parent lived beyond the age of 70 years. In addition, those with longer lived parents also had reduced risk of cancer; a 7 percent reduced likelihood of cancer in the follow-up per longer-lived parent.

Although factors such as smoking, high alcohol consumption, low physical activity and obesity were important, the lifespan of parents was still predictive of disease onset after accounting for these risks.

Dr Janice Atkins, a Research Fellow in the Epidemiology and Public Health group at the University of Exeter Medical School and lead author on the paper, said: "To our knowledge, this is the largest study to show that the longer your parents live, the more likely you are to remain healthy in your sixties and seventies."

The study built on previous findings published by the University of Exeter Medical School researchers earlier this year, which established a genetic link between parents' longevity and heart disease risk.

Professor David Melzer, who leads the research program, said: "It's been unclear why some older people develop heart conditions in their sixties while others only develop these conditions much later in life or even avoid them completely. Our research tells us that, while avoiding the well-known risk factors such as smoking is very important, there are also other factors inherited from parents. As we understand these parental factors better, we should be able to help more people to age well." - china.org.cn

    1 – Termites

    Sand_termite

Termites are not exactly dangerous in the typical sense. However, they have a large potential to cause damage to crops and infrastructure if they were ever able to breed freely to increase the population.

    2 – Lice

Lice may not seem dangerous. However, they are wingless scavengers that feed on our skin and blood. They do not transmit diseases, but if let untreated they can begin to do some serious damage to the skin.

    3 – Deer Tick

There is a reason why there are so many PSA about ticks each summer. Every year, the humble Deer Tick infects thousands of people with incurable lyme disease. The early symptoms include fever, aches and pains. However over time joints begin to stiffen and sufferers can develop heart failure.

    4 – Army Ants

Army Ants are highly aggressive and although one or two would not do you much damage, as a colony they can devour up to half a million small vertebrates per day! If they decided to attack a human we are pretty sure that they could manage to do some hefty damage.

    5 – Yellow Jackets

Yellow Jackets are aggressive wasps and will sting repeatedly and painfully – especially when they have been provoked. They have also been known to mark their target and pursue them relentlessly!

    6 – Black Widow

Okay, so technically Black Widow is an arachnid and not an insect, but whatever – she is going on the list! The sting of the black widow releases a harmful neurotoxin that is very painful for humans. It is important to seek immediate medical attention in order to limit the bite to just pain! If left unchecked it can get much worse!
