• CAUTION: Nigerians urged to eat good food to avoid diabetes as economic hardship bites harder

    01/Jan/2017 // 203 Viewers

Nigerians have been advised to embrace healthy eating and lifestyles to avoid lifestyle diseases such as diabetes.

This advice was given recently during the 5th edition of the annual Health Week of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, which featured seasoned health experts including the Director of the university’s Medical Services and host Dr. Ramota Apampa; the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Prof. Femi Fasanmade; the Chairperson of UNILAG Medical Centre Management Board, Prof. Jane Ajuluchukwu, among others.

Professor Fasanmade, who was the guest speaker at the event with the theme; “Eat Healthy; Beat Diabetes,” centred his lecture on the causes, symptoms and treatment option for diabetes, emphasising the role of diet in the prevention and management of Diabetes Mellitus.

According to him, diabetes is a non-infectious lifestyle related disease which cannot be passed from one individual to the other as is the case with communicable diseases. He explained that the disease can arise as a result of genetics.

The consultant endocrinologist reiterated the importance of healthy eating to curb the development and management of diabetes.

  • GOOD NEWS FOR SMOKERS: Top 10 foods that flush nicotine out of the body

    02/Apr/2016 // 789 Viewers

Nicotine is the chemical that makes cigarettes and smoking so hard to quit, nicotine is one of the most addictive chemicals known to man and it has been smoked all over the world for centuries. Nicotine is a stimulant that can block nerve and muscle cells from proper functioning. The tobacco plant produces nicotine that can raise heartbeat, blood pressure and can even increase your risk of a stroke.

Even with all of the smoking bans, health warnings and science to prove how harmful nicotine can be, people still choose to smoke. One can also chew tobacco, which is less harmful but still contains nicotine. If you smoke it is possible to flush nicotine out of your system by eating certain foods. There is more than one way to do this with different foods, read on to find out how.

  • How to make sex last longer

    02/Apr/2016 // 3465 Viewers

Whether you regularly experience premature ejaculation, a common $.e.xual problem for men, or simply want to find ways to make $.e.x last longer, there are plenty of things you can do both during and before $.e.x to prevent yourself from getting too excited too quickly. Read this article to learn how.

    Part1

    Before $.e.x

    1. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 1
      1
Relax and be positive. Premature ejaculation is as much a physical issue as a mental one. Try not to create a self-fulfilling prophecy by labeling yourself as $.e.xually incompetent in any way. Approaching $.e.x with confidence, self respect, and a positive attitude rather than fear and self-doubt can make all the difference for both you and your partner.

    2. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 2
      2
“Practice” with yourself. Masturbation is perfectly healthy and natural, and doing it regularly can help you build up your stamina, prevent premature ejaculation,[1] and even relieve stress and anxiety. Plus, the more time you spend with yourself, the more familiar you will become with your body so that you can more easily recognize when you get too excited. That way, during $.e.x, you can know when to slow down or change positions before it’s too late.

    3. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 3
      3

Find a regular $.e.xual partner if possible. Men tend to get particularly worked up during their first time with a new woman, especially if this woman is somebody he has been lusting after for a long time. Realize that sometimes it really isn’t you, but rather, how attracted to and excited you are about being in bed with her. And that’s perfectly ok.

      • Being in a monogamous relationship is a great way to improve your performance in bed, and the more time you spend with one person, the more comfortable and confident you will feel during $.e.x.

    4. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 4
      4
Wear a condo0m. Lots of men complain that condo0ms decrease pleasure and sensitivity during $.e.x, but if you’re trying to last longer in bed, that might be just what you need. And, of course, there’s the added bonus of preventing against unwanted pregnancies and $.e.xually transmitted diseases.

    5. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 5
      5
Cut down on alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Using these substances in excess may interfere with your ability to control ejaculation.

    6. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 6
      6

Use a topical medication. Desensitizing sprays and creams have been used for years to help men last longer but the side effects of sensation loss and partner transference have prevented them from widespread use. There is a new class of topical sprays with absorption technology that enables a mild anesthetic to penetrate the outer layer of penile skin to the nerves below that control ejaculation, providing superior control and good sensation for the man and generally unnoticeable transfer to the woman. There are several products available in the U.S. at the moment.

      • These are not available in all pharmacies. Search online for “penis spray” to find places to order online.

    Part2

    During $.e.x

    1. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 7
      1

Don’t skip foreplay. Studies have shown that couples that indulge in foreplay report having $.e.x for longer than those who don’t.[3] Instead of getting right down to business, take some time to cuddle, kiss, touch one another, and so on. The more time you spend on foreplay, the longer you’ll be in bed together.

      • If you get too excited during foreplay, stop her from doing whatever she’s doing and focus all of your attention on her instead.

    2. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 8
      2

Change positions often. This can shift your attention. Plus, exploring different $.e.xual positions can make $.e.x more exciting and ensure that both partners are satisfied.

      • Also, don’t be afraid to stop having $.e.x temporarily to focus on her.

    3. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 10
      3

Try to distract yourself. If you find yourself getting too excited during $.e.x, try to distract yourself from how turned on you are by thinking about something completely unrelated to the situation, like work or school. Temporarily diverting your attention can help you relax and slow down.

      • Whatever you think of, make sure that it’s something that doesn’t turn you on $.e.xually in any way.

    4. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 11
      4
Take slow, deep breaths. Many men find that breathing slowly and deeply during $.e.x can help them last longer. This can be attributed to the fact that breathing helps us relax. Try to breathe deep into your belly. Feel it expanding as you inhale. It may also help to hold your breath for two or three seconds before exhaling, slowly. This holding can have a calming, centering effect.

    5. Image titled Make Sex Last Longer Step 9
      5
Let her be in control. The person who is in control is usually the one experiencing most of the pleasure; letting her be in control can help decrease some of the sensitivity you feel.

  • HIV/AIDS: Shock as UN releases another frightening report

    02/Dec/2016 // 559 Viewers

As HIV continues to ravage Nigeria and other parts of the world with no cure for the sexually transmitted disease, the UNAIDS has released a very frightening report that no  fewer than 78 million people are currently living with HIV, while 35 million people had died of AIDS since the emergence of the scourge 35 years ago.

Michel Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS and UN Under-Secretary- General, disclosed this in his message to the 2016 World AIDS Day observed on Thursday. “Today, we commemorate World AIDS Day – we stand in solidarity with the 78 million people who have become infected with HIV.

“We also remember the 35 million who have died from AIDS-related illnesses since the first cases of HIV were reported,” he said. The UNAIDS executive director said the world was committed to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.

According to him, countries are getting on the fast-track as more than 18 million people are on lifesaving HIV treatment. He added that countries are on track to virtually eliminate HIV transmission from mother to child. The UN official, however, raised the alarm that while the world is winning the war against the AIDS epidemic, it is not seeing progress everywhere.

He regretted that number of new HIV infections is not declining among adults, with young women particularly at risk of becoming infected with HIV. “We know that for girls in sub-Saharan Africa, the transition to adulthood is a particularly dangerous time. “Young women are facing a triple threat; a high risk of HIV infection, low rates of HIV testing and poor adherence to HIV treatment.

“Co-infections of people living with HIV, such as tuberculosis (TB), cervical cancer and hepatitis C, are at risk of putting the 2020 target of fewer than 500 000 AIDS-related deaths out of reach.

“TB caused about a third of AIDS-related deaths in 2015, while women living with HIV are at four to five times greater risk of developing cervical cancer. “Taking AIDS out of isolation remains an imperative if the world is to reach the 2020 target”, he said.

Sidibé said “with access to treatment, people living with HIV are living longer, investing in treatment is paying off”. “But people older than 50 who are living with HIV, including people who are on treatment, are at increased risk of developing age-associated noncommunicable diseases, affecting HIV disease progression. “AIDS is not over, but it can be if we tailor the response to individual needs at particular times in life.

“Whatever our individual situation may be, we all need access to the tools to protect us from HIV and to access anti-retroviral medicines , should we need them,” he said. According to the UNAIDS executive director, a life-cycle approach to HIV that finds solutions for everyone at every stage of life can address the complexities of HIV.

  • After years of intensive research, Prof. MADUIKE EZEIBE of Michael Okpara University discovers cure for HIV/AIDS (See photo)

    02/Feb/2017 // 3326 Viewers

    Prof. Maduike Ezeibe

Prof. Francis Otunta, the Vice Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia state, has announced the discovery of a drug for the treatment and cure of HIV/AIDS by the institution.

Otunta told newsmen at the university campus on Wednesday that the finding followed years of scientific research by the institution.

He said that the breakthrough was made by Prof. Maduike Ezeibe, a researcher in the university.

According to him, Ezeibe had presented the drug to the University management, Senate and Council, where he explained the processes he went through to arrive at his finding.

The VC also said that Ezeibe had equally presented the drug to his colleagues in the medical field and nobody had contradicted his finding.

“Prof. Ezeibe is a researcher in Veterinary Medicine and one may wonder how he discovered a drug to cure a human ailment,” he said.

He commended Ezeibe for the breakthrough, saying: “He has brought honour to the University and we are proud of him.”

Otunta said that the university was in the process of mass producing the drug for further clinical trials on persons living with HIV/AIDS in the country.

Ezeibe, who is a professor of Veterinary Medicine and Clinical Virology, said that the drug was produced with Aluminum Silicate and Magnesium Silicate (Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate).

He said that the two minerals “are already in use as medicines for the treatment of various animal and human diseases”.

He said that 10 persons living with the disease, “who volunteered’’, were made to apply through their doctor to the VC.

“They were treated daily with the Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate (50 mg/kg),” he said.

Ezeibe said that the volunteers were subjected to monthly tests for viral loads and CD4-lymphocyte counts.

“With the antiviral effects of the medicine, its ability to reach all cells (as nanoparticles) and the lymphocytes, there is no more hiding place (sanctuary) for HIV,” he said.

He said that the medicine had been used to potentiate Ampicilin, Chloroquine, Piperazine and Sulphadimidin, among others, and could be a major foreign exchange earner for Nigeria, if approved by relevant authorities.

According to him, “local and international pharmaceutical companies will find the product as a veritable raw material”.

Ezeibe said that he presented the research findings to the World Virology Conference in Atlanta in 2015, and Antonio (Texas) in 2016.

Besides, he said that the results of the laboratory tests had been published in many international scientific journals, including the British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, among several others.

He said that he is also about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with a U.S.-based Scientific Research Publishing, publishers of World Journal of AIDS, for the publication of his book “How I came about the cure for HIV/AIDS”.

Ezeibe, who said that the medicine was patented in August 2014 in Nigeria, called on the Federal Government to help him to secure international patency for the drug.

He said: “If commercialised, the Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate would become an alternative for petroleum to the Nigerian economy.”

The unnamed lady said that she screamed for Jesus and begged him not to let her baby die after being taken into hospital. She then claimed, that she saw a huge light in the corner of the room and made out legs, arms and a head.In a now viral video recording, she said

“I felt like i was dying,”It tasted like death. I felt like life was leaving my body, I was ready to die, I thought ‘OK, this is it’.I was laying down, and in the corner of the room, something appeared.

''It was made of thunder, it was made out of fire,”It was like the biggest light emanating from this really tall being. I couldn’t see his face, but I could see it was two arms, two legs and a head.”It was coming towards me and all around its body was a kind of gas. I was so scared.”

    03/Dec/2016 // 1040 Viewers

Have always said it and would continue to. The easiest way to completely get rid of premature ejaculation is this: A healthy diet + regular exercising + natural supplements.

It is as simple as that, part of having a clean and healthy diet is the fruits you take in. Most of us don’t even take fruits at all except during fasting period (oranges and apple).

“My name is Uncle D who used to be a one minute man like most Nigerian men, almost lost my beautiful wife due to this problem. That was when I started researching and trying everything out there, its all now history as have now solved the one minute riddle, I now last more than 30 minutes every time I have sex with my wife and now am out to help as much Nigerian men out of this problem too. Over 1000 Nigerian men have had great results taking my advice and saved their marriage”

But do you know that eating these 3 easy to find fruits boosts your libido and over all sex performance?

3 common fruits that help you last long in bed
Bananas contain Bromelain, an enzyme that enhances libido and reverses impotency in men. Asides from the penis shape joke people often make with banana. it contains potassium, magnesium as well as other vitamins. Bananas not only serve as food for nutrition, they also help improve the production of hormones, increase energy level and help spice up sexual desire. They contain Vitamin B6 which helps in the production of red blood cells, dopamine and serotonin.

I used to hear about this growing up but never for once took the claim serious until few years ago. Although this fruit is low in calorie, it contains a significant amount of phyto-nutrients that could boost libido and stamina. It contains citrulline, lycopene and beta-carotene. Citrulline is converted to Arginine, an amino acid that increases citric oxide levels in the body. This helps relax the blood vessels in similar ways Viagra works you can call it natural viagra, this is also good for cardiovascular muscles.

Water melon is a natural enhancement for boosting sex drive; the seeds contain magnesium which has aphrodisiac effects on the consumer thereby increasing libido and stamina.

Avocados contain lots of potassium which improves stamina as well as it increases blood flow. When blood flows and rushes into the sexual organ, the desire to have sex is increased. The avocado tree is sometimes called the Testicle Tree because of the fruit’s shape when compared to the human testicles and it growing in pairs. Avocados also support healthy cardiovascular system and help in the regulation of blood sugar; thus they are safe to consume. Avocados are high in folic acid which would help increase sperm count in men. For the women, it would help prevent birth defects.

  • WARNING!! Artificial Sweeteners May Reduce Fertility - Financial Times reports

    03/Nov/2016 // 234 Viewers

Artificial sweeteners have been tied to a significant reduction in fertility, prompting health officials to warn women undergoing in-vitro fertilisation, IVF, to avoid fake and refined sugars.

According to a report in the Financial Times of London, sweeteners and other chemical additives in processed food and drink could make it harder to conceive.

Doctors in Sao Paulo, Brazil, studied the drinking habits of 524 female IVF patients and determined the eggs of those who frequently consumed sugar-free diet drinks were more likely to have problems conceiving and poorer quality eggs and embryos.

A sugar substitute is a food additive that provides a sweet taste like that of sugar while containing significantly less food energy. Some sugar substitutes are produced by nature, and others produced synthetically.

Those that are not produced by nature are, in general, called artificial sweeteners. Today artificial sweeteners and other sugar substitutes are found in a variety of food and beverages; they’re marketed as “sugar-free” or “diet,” including soft drinks, chewing gum, jellies, baked goods, candy, fruit juice, and ice cream and yogurt.

Five artificial sweeteners – acesulfame K, aspartame, neotame, saccharin, sucralose – are approved for use in the United States, U.S, All are chemically manufactured molecules – molecules that do not exist in nature. Artificial sweeteners are used in one of two ways.

They may be used directly in commercially processed foods, or they are mixed with one or more starch-based sweeteners before sale to consumers. Artificial sweeteners are so intensely sweet that dextrose or maltodextrin, or both, must be added to dilute their intense sweetness in order to imitate the sweetness of a sugar.

Artificial sweeteners cannot be sold directly to consumers since only infinitesimally small amounts are required to mimic sugar’s sweet taste.

  • A Blood Test for Cancer Gets Closer

    04/Jun/2016 // 347 Viewers

Researchers report on the largest study to date using blood tests to track cancer in patients

A blood test is one of the least invasive ways for doctors to get a peek inside the body. But when it comes to cancer, blood isn’t exactly a reliable source of information. While tumors do shed fragments into the blood, they’re rare and hard to find, so until now, the best way for doctors to learn about tumors is to physically go in and extract snippets of them with a biopsy.

But new advances in genetic sequencing is leading to more hope for a liquid biopsy for cancer, a way to track cancer through the blood. In a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, researchers from Guardant report encouraging results from a study involving 15,000 patients who were tested with the company’s test that looks at 70 different tumor genes. The technology picks up tiny fragments of DNA shed by tumors into the blood, and sequences the DNA to provide a picture of which mutations are present in the tumor. That helps doctors decide which treatments are most effective against that person’s cancer, since many of the newer anti-cancer drugs specifically target certain mutant processes common in cancer.

The study found that more than two thirds of the patients did indeed have mutations that could be addressed with currently approved drug treatments, or with experimental drugs being tested in clinical trials.

What’s more, the team of researchers, which also included scientists from University of California San Diego, also compared the blood-based results with those from a physical sample of the tumor obtained from a traditional biopsy within six months of the blood test. Among these patients, there was 98% agreement over the genetic results of which mutations were present.

Those findings are the strongest yet confirming the utility of such blood-based tests for cancer. Such liquid biopsies carry an advantage over physical biopsies since tumors are notoriously heterogeneous; cells from one part of the tumor may be different from cells from another, and biopsies typically only take cells from one part. Tumors also change over time, but repeated biopsies are not practical for safety as well as economic reasons. Blood-based testing, however, could track tumors over time and provide a better picture of how the cancer is changing, and how treatments might also have to change if the tumor is becoming resistant to an existing therapy.

But even the researchers involved in the study don’t forsee liquid biopsies replacing physical biopsies completely. In order to diagnose cancer, a biopsy is needed to establish what type of cancer is present and verify its primary location. But, says Helmy Eltoukhy, co-founder and CEO of Guardant, “what liquid biopsies might replace is every biopsy after that.”

Says Dr. Julie Vose, professor of internal medicine at the Nebraska Medical Center University Hospital and president of ASCO, “We could imagine this type of assay could be used in the future to surveil patients and change their treatments when new mutations are found, without having to biopsy the original tumor, and in cases of metastatic disease where it may be more costly and dangerous to do that.”
